Description

Spherical body with melon grooves, flaring neck, face on neck. Red. Vertical loop handle missing. Incised bar on back and ornament below chin

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. There is a modeled/molded face on the neck with coffee bean eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. The body is incised with lines representing a necklace and other features. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2758."
