Description

Fine small basket decorated with seeds and red tassels. Made for an initiate to the bonito cult for his coming out or reentry celebration. The initiate carries this basket as a part of this elegant costume. Later the hosuehold of the initiate saves the basket as a memento of the completion of the inititation. On initial celebrations of the annual celebration called Wogosia, every family goes on a picnic up island to celebrate the beginning of the new year. The anga puria are taken along to mark the festiveness of the occasion. The anga puria was made for the intitation ending October 1966 on Santa catalina. It was an extra, so purchased for Museum.
