Description

Small two handled red jar with pointed base, with face on neck, arms incised and hands in relief holding bird to mouth

Face-neck narrow-necked jar/bottle (aríbalo, aryballos) with an ovate body, hyperboloid neck, flattened rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. Molded/modeled addition of a face with eyes, ear spools, nose, and mouth touching the beak of a modeled bird held by two modeled hands on the neck and body. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The vessel has a rough surface. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2764."
