Description | Ruyi (如意) jade scepter. Greenish white jade. Head in stylized form of fungus, surmounted by bat-dragon and bird on handle. High-ranking officials presented the emperor with a ruyi (scepter) on important occasions. Ruyi have a long history in China, but they became important as jewelry and ceremonial gifts during the Qing dynasty. |
