Description

Bagobo man’s jacket called the ompák-ka-mámâ. Open in front - “Bolero” style inspired by Spanish fashion. Plain weave of red and undyed cotton checks. Fabric of the bodice features black and undyed threads running vertically through the checks. Appliquéd thin ribbons with yellow, blue, and black embroidery in repeating ‘X’ pattern along jacket opening, bottom, and arm cuffs. Thicker ribbon appliqué along shoulder seams with yellow zigzag embroidery and beaded embroidery. Red twill weave collar with zigzag pattern of white and metal bead embroidery. Small porcelain button with torn loop closure at collar opening. Some staining and loose threads. Displayed at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904.
