Description | Red ware. Spheroidal body, bulging neck, everted lip. Painted with pelicans. One loop handle shoulder to neck. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with stylized birds and geometric designs in red, orange, white, black, and purple?. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "929." |
