Description

One Book, One Philadelphia Program

What is the REAL Persepolis?

Penn Museum joins with the Free Library of Philadelphia and its annual "One Book, One Philadelphia"
program, with an archaeologist's perspective on The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, and a question: why is Persepolis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iran, originally built around 515 BC, in the title of Ms. Satrapi's award-winning graphic novel/comic book memoir? Lauren Ristvet, Dyson Assistant Curator, Near East Section, offers her thoughts about this-and shares some information about this important Iranian site, long known as "The City of the Persians." The event concludes with an optional short tour of the Museum's Islamic gallery, where much of the material comes from Iran.
