""Begged, Borrowed, Stolen: The Many Lives of a Work of Art""
This presentation will consider a handful of paintings by the 17th century Spanish artist Diego Velazquez, the official court painter for King Philip IV. The travels and stories of these pictures speak to issues of authenticity of art works, the provenance history of paintings, the handling of items that are declared works of national patrimony, and the complexities of art theft during times of both war and peace.
