The Land of Cypriot Aphrodite and the Kingdom of Ancient Paphos
From as early as the days when the rhapsodies of the Odyssey were sung in every part of the Greek-speaking world, Paphos was identified as the site of Aphrodite's most famous and most ancient sanctuary. Five years after the implementation of the ""Palaepaphos Urban Landscape Project"" (over an area of two square kilometers around the sanctuary), the University of Cyprus team is beginning to identify the structure of the ancient capital, and also to understand the economic system that allowed a Late Bronze Age harbor town to develop into the administrative centre of an independent kingdom. This lecture will be given by Maria Iacovou, University of Cyprus.
