Description

Penn Cultural Heritage Center Lecture
The Challenges of Going Green in Western Turkey: Natural and Cultural Heritage Practices and Policies in the Gygaean (Marmara) Lake Basin of central Lydia
Dr. Christina Luke, Boston University

Early travelers noted the rich environs of the lake and romanticized the hundreds of burial mounds in Bin Tepe as well as the ruins of Sardis. Today Bin Tepe is a first class protection zone and constitutes the largest protected archaeological landscape in Turkey. Yet, its archaeological heritage represents only one part of the story. Free admission.

The Penn Cultural Heritage Center is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of community-based Cultural Heritage. The Penn CHC is located in the Penn Museum at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.
