Description | Flat piece of wood carved to leave a pattern in high relief. The block is inked and pressed onto the skin as a guide for the tattooing. This may be a version of what Hose and Shelford call "a Sea Dayak modification of the dog design, but known as 'scorpion' (kala)." For the outside of a man's thigh. Identified by Furness as a design used by the Ibans of the Rejang River: "kala," (scorpion) for the outer side of a man's thigh. |
