Description | One of a pair of dance leggings. Trapezoidal shape. Three horizontal bands of dyed porcupine quill work adorn the front of the legging. The top and bottom bands are of white and yellow quills in a meander pattern. The center band is of white and red quills in the same pattern. The meander design made with quill work is similar to a Tlingit basketry pattern called "woman's hat" (Kaplan and Barsness, 1986 p. 186). Hide fringe hangs below each quill work band. Two hide straps are attached to each side of the legging to secure it to the wearer's leg. |
