Description | Flat base, globular body, nearly cylindrical neck, one loop handle shoulder to neck. Plain with a face on neck and arms in high relief on body, one hand to mouth. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, effigy-anthropomorphic neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel is shaped like a human figure with an arm held to the chin. The face has incised eyes and mouth. The figure has ear spools decorated with punctate dots. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. There is a porous area on the side of the body of grayish green discoloration, possibly from overfiring. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2708." |
