In addition, the sound track is missing.This short outttake features footage of Vincenzo Petrullo, then of the University of Pennsylvania, showing R. Fenimore Johnson, funder of the Matto Grosso Expedition, his archaeological digs near the village where the rest of the film "Matto Grosso the Great Brazilian Wilderness" (1931) was filmed. It is possible that they considered editing this sequence in to the final film but it did not make the cut. Petrullo showing Johnson the trenches with large clay vessels. A grave site MCU of Fenimore Johnson and Petrullo Petrullo "explaining" his work to Johnson for the camera CU of hands of both men handling a beaded necklace other artifacts, and a seashell. Note that the site is far from the ocean. |
