| Film Description | Edited travelogue film of South America From Mr. Arthur Todes' notes: Opening shots show harbor if Magallanes, the world's most southern city in latitude 53 degrees, formerly known as Punta Arenas. Then follow views taken aboard Argentine steamship from Magallenas to Buenos Aires with stops at 8 ports en-route. Then follow shots of airway trip from Buenos Aires across the Andes to Santiago Chile. The rail and bus journey from Buenos Aires to Santiago takes 8 days, but by plane, 6 1/2 hours. The plane here rise(s) to a height of 22,000 feet to cross the triple range of the Andes. Then follow pictures of the greatest cataracts of the world located in Guayra, Brazil. The Guará River, which has a width of 5 miles, narrows to several hundred feet in plunging over these cataracts which are located in the junction of Paraguay and Brazil. This is the greatest volume of water flow in the world; Niagara Falls has a water volume of about 2 1/2 cubic feet of water per minute, while at Guayra the water flow is 3 million cubic feet per second, or 180 million cubic feet in a minute. |
