What are these six dentists doing in the human skeletal collection at the Penn Museum?

Turns out, there’s an OrthoPerio Institute dental conference in Philadelphia Friday, November 11. Recently, dentists working with Physical Anthropology Curator and Keeper Janet Monge made some surprising discoveries about our teeth. (Hint: no braces needed for our ancestors of 250 years or so ago). An NPR program told part of the story earlier this fall.

Pictured here, left to right, are dentists Dr. John Mew, Dr. Kevin Boyde, Dr.Marianna Evans, Dr. Reem Abdulrahman, Dr. Patricia Campillo and Dr. Alex Ditmarov.
