Teacher or Researcher?

As Sol Worth and John Adair had incorporated so many goals into their project, it isn’t surprising that these goals at times conflicted. The researchers found two goals particularly difficult to reconcile: learning how Navajo students would make films if left to their own devices, and  teaching Navajo students enough to make films in the first place. While the first goal required them to avoid influencing their students at all, the second goal tempted them to teach their students to make film “the right way.” The way that Worth perceived his students and their abilities was also a factor in his influence.
