Description | Flat, wooden Katsina cradle doll. The face is painted green with a black, triangular area for the eyes. A stepped headdress representing feathers is carved on both sides of the head. A tuft of feathers is attached to the top of the head. The body is painted white and red. This figure is the Crow Mother (Angwusnasomtaka) Katsina who may be considered the mother of Whippers or the mother of all Katsinam. (Colton, H. 1959 #12, Wright, B., 1973 #66) |
