Building Transformation Icon Building Transformation

The Penn Museum is America’s museum of ancient worlds. Our Building Transformation project will enable us to showcase even more stories and artifacts that illuminate our human heritage and experience.

We remain open during construction—there is always something new to discover at the Museum. Please join us for a grand reopening celebration November 16–17 and explore more than 8,000 square feet of reimagined galleries and public spaces, including the Sphinx Gallery, Mexico and Central America Gallery, Africa Galleries, Gateway to Egypt, and Harrison Auditorium.

Some galleries are currently closed for transformation:

  • The dramatically reimagined Mexico and Central America Gallery and Africa Galleries will reopen November 16.
  • The Middle East Galleries and Native American Voices are temporarily closed until November 16, during construction on the adjacent, brand new Sphinx Gallery.
  • We are working on creating exciting new galleries for our renowned Egyptian collection. The Egypt (Mummies) Gallery remains open while the Egypt (Sphinx) Gallery is closed for conservation of monumental objects.

Temporary Closures and Alerts

The Museum or its galleries may occasionally be closed to visitors during exhibition updates, private functions, holiday closures, and other events.

Please note these upcoming alerts to help plan your next visit:

  • The Mexico & Central America, Africa, and Egypt (Sphinx) Galleries are closed for transformation.
  • Saturday, November 9 – Due to a special Penn Museum event, The Chinese Rotunda will close at 1:00pm and Egypt (Mummies) Gallery will close at 3:00pm. We apologize for the inconvenience.
