Description | Flat, wooden Katsina cradle doll. The face is bisected vertically into halves painted orange and green. The mouth is a protruding tube. The back of the head has green and yellow corn painted. An elaborate, tableta headdress is attached to the head painted blue, green, yellow and red and has feathers attached to the top. The body is painted white and red with yellow and green arms. This figure is the Sio Hemis (or Sio Humis) Katsina, borrowed from the Zuni. (Colton, H. 1959 #155, Wright, B., 1973 #216) |
