Description

Plaited visor of pandanas. Such visors are used only for canoe fishing. This one is made in style that projects two tassels forward. (parai-ma-mora "true" or "ordinary" visor). Visors are almost replaced with European-stimulated plaited hats with brims. Only on Santa Catalina are a few of the paraima still made or used. The two projecting poitns of the visor appear in the iconography of carving, but often looks as if it were two horns protruding out from the man's forehead.
