Description | Shape like a skyphos, Attic type, of fourth century. Three claw feet. Each handle plate has a pair of lion's heads in relief. Bronze handle. A) Nude youth bending forward to left, right foot forward and higher than the left. His right hand is outstretched holding a white dove and a fillet. Below his hand is a white stele (?). A garland (?) slung over his right shoulder and across his chest. Another garland (?) around upper left thigh. Garment suspended from left shoulder down back and left leg. B) Woman with situla (?) and dish. Woman is running toward right, looking back. Situla (?) in left hand and dish raised in right. White dove perched on dish. Below dish on ground is a white stele (?). Intact, though cracked; hole in floor. |
