Description | Character from the Brata Yuda: a Kurawa. (Baratayuda is the Indonesian name for the climactic battle between the Pandawa and the Kurawa at the end of the Mahbarata. See 29-91-1 Javanese shadow puppet (wayang kulit) made of water buffalo hide, with a bamboo handle and rods to control the arms. Although in performance the figure is seen only as a shadow cast on a cotton screen, it is brightly painted and gilded on both sides. The character is one of the Kurawa, who opposed the five Pandawa brothers in the great climactic battle of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. |
