Description

Hachiwari 鉢割 or Kabutowari 兜割. Slightly curved, quadrangular steel "blade" tapering to blunt point, notched near tang. It has a small, oval wooden guard (tsuba) and a wooden grip deeply carved in conventionalized forms and lacquered red. The wooden sheath is also carved and lacquered red. There is an inscription on all four faces of the blade.
