Description | For second class woman. White cotton. Six breadths sewn together with black thread. Upper portion brocaded with red cotton thread. Black silk applique around neck and in sunburst pattern and discs of black silk at each shoulder and on front and back. Additional design elements [spots, bird, lines] embroidered in purple, aqua, pink, blue and orange silk thread. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 52, single ply, Z twist, 1 strand, white cotton. Weft: 23, single ply, Z twist, 2 strands, white cotton. Plain weave. 3 pieces joined, 4 selvedges. Made on a backstrap loom." |
