Description

20th century huipil in three panels with white cotton ground. Central panel has bird and geometric motifs in multiple colors on a white or red ground. Neckline is cut and appliqued with maroon fabric with chain stitch embroidery. Side panels have brocading in purple, green and blue in diamond and zigzag motifs. Metal clasp closure at the neckline on the back.

As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp central panel: 15 epi, two ply, white cotton. Weft central panel: 34 ppi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Central panel is weft faced plain weave. Warp side panels: 104 epi, two singles, Z twist, white cotton. Weft side panels: 22 ppi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Side panels are warp faced plain weave. Supplementary weft of the central panel is two faced, and of the side panels is single faced. Three panels, central panel has three selvedges and side panels have two selvedges. Woven on a backstrap loom."
