Description | About one half of semi-cylindrical top is preserved, whole stem and base missing. Mended from two pieces. Clay is light red-brown with streaky surface. Glaze is highly lustrous but badly preserved, generally brown. no traces remain of applied color. Decorated with molding along edge (sides and end) with incised herringbone pattern. On sides outside this is a smooth molding ending in molded duck's heads. Painted decoration consists of apotropaic eyes with eyebrows ending in volutes under central palmette (9 petals). Lotus buds on each side under eyes. |
