Description | White cotton huipil. Alternate bands of plain weave gauze. Three panels sewn together. Center stripe is unlike the two side pieces. Technique known as "renco" or "calado." Without neck or sleeve embroidery. Neck not cut. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 18 epi, two singles, Z twist, white cotton. Weft: 28 ppi, two singles, Z twist, white cotton. Basket plain weave bands and gauze weave bands. Supplementary weft is two faced. Three panels, four selvedges each. Woven on a backstrap loom." |
