Description | Basket (A) with handle and lid (B). Body of basket has broad ribs, with inner lining of twill weave and outer covering of very fine coiled fiber. Handle is three broad strips, passing under body of basket and arching over top. Handles painted red and blue, broad strips forming base, around middle and at top of body of basket are painted red. Strip forming base and strip around middle of body are broken. Small Chinese sewing basket, purchased as a souvenir in Honolulu in 1881. Contains shells and bits of coral (C). |
