Description

Large, mosaic. From reception room of an Arab house. With inlaid door and frame.

"Ornamental fountain and basin from the same reception room as the pair of doors in a mosaic frame at the opposite end of this gallery.

The shape of this fountain is typical and can be understood as the plan of a dome on squinches (small arches built across the interior angles between two walls): a reflection of the dome of heaven.

The strap design is made of small colored limestone and ceramic pieces set in a mortar bed."
