Description | Rectangular button blanket with Chilkat strips. Black ground with red flannel strips sewn on to create three broad borders. The black ground is separated from the red flannel by three rows of circular, shell "buttons." Chilkat strips are attached to the sides of the blanket and were likely cut from a larger Chilkat blanket gifted at a potlach (Kaplan and Barsness, 1986 p. 206). The strips have formline designs in bold yellow, black, and green colors. Fringe attached to the Chilkat strips is wrapped with white, dyed, porcupine quills. The upper edges of the strips have brown fur attached. The upper edge of the blanket has two small flaps that are entirely covered with red flannel and two rows of shell buttons, one of which is missing a few buttons. |
