Description | Sommerville: An Antique Fibula, bronze inlaid with gold ornamentation, containing an antique paste intaglio representing Romulus and Remus and the Seh-Wolf. Interesting. Of the second century, A.D. Antique Pastes, Case YYY. Vermeule: Paste, imitating Agate. Intaglio. (Ancient bronze pin or fibula inlaid with gold ornamentation). Roman Wolf facing to right, nursing the twins Romulus and Remus. The scene is identical with that on coins of the Emperor Antoninus Pius (A.D. 138-161) commemorating the 900th anniversary of the birth of Rome. A.D. 154. Roman Imperial. |
