Description | Bagobo man’s trousers called saroár. Gussets in four pieces at crotch. Ikat pattern on plain weave of abaca - dark brown, mahogany, and undyed/light brown. These colors would have come from the same dye source, the roots of Morinda Citrifolia, which produces a spectrum of red hues. Casing at the waist where a drawstring would be placed. Small holes. Strips of ribbon appliqué with red, blue, yellow, and undyed embroidered ‘X’s outlined with light bead embroidery at opening of both legs. Displayed at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904. |
