Although this has an historic tag attibuting it to Tahiti, it is exactly like 1994.X.11383 and .11384, both of which are labelled New Caledonia. Wendy Arbeit, author of Baskets in Polynesia, says she has never seen baskets of palm leaf sheath in Polynesia and suspects that this is a Melanesian style (email 4/17/07).
