Description | Cast of a pottery censer (?). Of basket type, consisting of a ring of twelve cylindrical compartments connected by a twisted basket-type handle over open center. On periphery in front of compartments are twelve vertical molded figures with human bodies and animal heads with long snouts or beaks. Red pottery covered with lime (?) layer or encrustation. On base, twelve incised glyphs, probably calendrical, probably Mixtec. Three others of this type known to exist, but none with glyphs. The original was catalogued as L-48-1. Cast made in the Museum. |
