Description

Female figure (moai p'a pa'a), of lightish brown wood with pronounced vertical grain. Breasts, arms and hands carved in low relief on flat body. Hands gesturing to breast and vagina. Face carved in high relief, with heavy brows, long nose, straight mouth. Eyes inlaid with bone rings and obsidian centers (obsidian missing from one eye). Wood is not native to Easter Island - thought to be pine from the deck cargo of a ship wrecked on the island in the mid-19th century.
