Description | Ottawa leg rattles. Indian word is "kat i wi due se i ga was" (leg rattle); were used by men in social dances (tied below the knee); used now (1938) in all dances except the pipe ceremonial. Information objtained from Pi Pi gwe, meaning Little Hawk, or Chief Fred Elbanagesbik. The rattles consist of two pieces of squarewood with four parts of dear hooves? on each piece of wood. Pieces of rawhide are attached to the wood and used to tie the rattles on. |
