Description

One of a pair of snowshoes. Wooden frame made from two pieces of wood that are steamed, bent, and spliced together at the toe. Three wooden cross braces separate the snowshoe into sections of hexagonal weave netting made from gut or sinew. The central section has an open, straight weave of five warp straps and four weft straps, all made from animal hide. Some of the straps in the open section are wrapped with more hide cordage. A length of cotton cloth is also attached to the open section around a large opening in the straps. Upturned toe, pointed heel.
