Description | Hook surmounted by standing male figure, framed by openwork pieces along sides (touching at thighs, upper arms and top of head). Bird on back of figure's head, its neck and head rising above forehead, its wings forming top of openwork at sides. Figure has cowrie shell eyes, protruding tongue. Forehead overmolded with clay and inlaid with eight cowrie shells and human (?) hair. Twisted fiber with tassels at ankles, wrists, ears. Fiber apron. Bands of scarifications across breast and upper arms in front, and on upper arms, across shoulders and down over buttocks in back. Design of oval flanked by repeated chevrons carved on bird's wings at top, on the openwork pieces at the sides, and on the hook. Black, mouth and tongue red. |
