Description | Stepped base; high stem; deep bowl greater in circumference above than below; overhanging rim. Handles attach at bottom of wall, rise diagonally above rim and down to it. A strut between handles and rim at level of rim and a spur thumb grip on each handle near its lower end. A) Nude winged male advancing to left holding a situla in left hand and a chest, raised up, in the right. In field an olive (?) sapling and a tympanon (?). On either side a thin vertical white pole with a disk (?) on top. B) Winged female figure bending forward to left, right foot forward and at higher level than left. Wears garment to knees, calf length boots. She pours from an oinochoe with left hand into a pail on the ground. She raises a wreath up in her left hand. Behind her is a large thymiaterion. At either side is a tall, thin white pole with a disk (?) on top. Intact save for a section of the overhang of the rim. Warm buff clay. |
