It is with great pride that we present this report of the Educational Department. For many years the Department has done much for children and adults alike to vivify the study of vanished civilizations, but in the past year it has added a more vital lesson to the roster, the one we must all learn if our civilization is not to vanish also. Read carefully the modest account of “Museum Games” or you will miss their true significance, because it is by that simple method the lesson has been taught-the lesson of understanding the peoples of the world and a realization of the kinship of man.
Perhaps there are those who will say that a museum is no place for the teaching of ethics, but to what more glorious use could our magnificent collections be put than to the attempt of awakening in the minds of growing children a love of beauty, a respect for one’s fellow man and a sense of fair play.
To the members of the Educational Staff who have given freely and unstintingly of their holiday hours I want to express my admiration and appreciation.
