I am delighted to announce that Dr. Beebe Bahrami is the new editor of Expedition. She is the latest in a distinguished line of editors of the University of Pennsylvania Museum’s magazine, and the curators, staff, and I are thrilled to welcome her back to the Museum. Dr. Bahrami received her doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focused on the shared historical and cultural aspects of the Andalusian identity in Morocco and Spain. She taught at the University of Notre Dame and Philadelphia University and was also a research consultant, applying anthropological research methods in industrial design, medicine, and film. Dr. Bahrami is dedicated to communicating the richness of anthropology and archaeology to a broad audience (see her chapter on North Africa and the Middle East in National Geographic ’ s book Peoples of the World ), a tradition she will continue as Expedition’ s editor. Dr. Bahrami was the unanimous choice of our search committee.
I am also pleased to announce that the Museum, following a national search, has contracted the production, distribution, and order fulfillment of Expedition to Pohly & Partners Inc., a Boston-based relationship marketing company specializing in custom publishing services. Among Pohly & Partners ’ clients are Continental Airlines, UAW-DaimlerChrysler, UAW-General Motors, and Western Union. Dr. Bahrami will be working closely with the staff of Pohly & Partners to enhance the appearance of Expedition, provide means to efficiently handle feedback from readers, broaden our readership, and enrich the reading experience for all of our subscribers. We also intend, with Pohly & Partners ’ assistance, to make the magazine more viable economically.
