PHILADELPHIA—The Penn Museum is offering special events throughout the summer that expand access to archaeology and anthropology.

In collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense, the Penn Museum is among hundreds of Blue Star Museums across the country that will offer free admission to active-duty U.S. military personnel, including the National Guard and Reserves, and their families (up to 5 members) through Labor Day on Monday, September 5, 2022. A military identification card must be presented at the welcome desk to receive free entry. The Penn Museum is free to active-duty personnel and military veterans all year long.

As part of the Wawa Welcome America celebration throughout the region, the Penn Museum will offer free admission on Friday, July 1, 2022, 10:00 am–5:00 pm. Special activities include Global Voyagers, a 45-minute interactive seated tour that offers an introduction to the museum and highlights remarkable objects; self-guided tours, scavenger hunts, along with “I Spy” adventures; and Cartifacts!, touchable replica artifacts on carts available in certain galleries. The Museum Café will be open from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Registration is required.

Ancient Alcohol: A Taste of Bygone Booze Tour and Beer Tasting invites explorers ages 21+ to experience the Penn Museum in an entirely new way, Saturday, July 23, 2022, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm. Discover ancient beer and wine, modern-day brewing techniques, and how “drinking culture” has changed over time. At the end of the tour, taste-test Flying Fish Exit 3 Blueberry Braggot, which is similar to an ancient beverage recipe revealed by a Penn biomolecular archaeologist. Tickets include museum admission and a guided tour. ($30 for drinking adults who wish to participate in the beer tasting. $24 for designated drivers who will not be given a beer.) All ticket holders for this event must be over 21 and registration is required.

More tours included with admission and other in-person and virtual summer programs can be found on the Penn Museum’s calendar of events.
